BBL & Halo Laser in Houston & The Woodlands | SkinLab by Dr. Roth
BBL & Halo Laser Treatments in Houston & The Woodlands
At SkinLab by Dr. Roth, we offer two of the most advanced light-based skin rejuvenation technologies available: Sciton BBL (Broadband Light) and the Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser. Both treatments are available at our Houston River Oaks and The Woodlands locations, performed by our licensed clinical providers under the medical supervision of Dr. Forrest S. Roth, MD, FACS.
BBL Photofacial (Broadband Light)
BBL is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device, manufactured by Sciton. It uses precisely controlled light energy to target and correct visible skin concerns at the surface level — without breaking the skin.

BBL is ideal for:
- Sun damage and brown spots
- Hyperpigmentation and melasma
- Rosacea and facial redness
- Uneven skin tone and blotchiness
- Small visible vessels on the face
- Skin texture improvements
Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser
Halo is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, combining two wavelengths — ablative and non-ablative — in a single pass. This allows for deep skin resurfacing with significantly less downtime than traditional fully ablative CO₂ lasers.
Halo is ideal for:
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Sun damage and fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scars and surface irregularities
- Overall skin quality and radiance
How Halo Works
Before: Topical numbing cream is applied 30–60 minutes prior to treatment.
During: The Halo handpiece scans the treatment area, delivering both ablative and non-ablative laser energy simultaneously. Treatment time is typically 30–45 minutes for a full face.
After: Skin appears bronzed for 1–2 days, then sheds microscopic particles called MENDS over days 3–7, revealing fresh, smooth skin underneath. Most patients take 5–7 days of social downtime.
Results
Many patients see visible improvement in skin tone and texture within 1–2 weeks of their first Halo treatment. Full collagen remodeling results continue to develop over 3 months. Most patients do 1–2 Halo treatments per year for long-term maintenance.
Combining BBL and Halo
BBL and Halo are frequently performed together as a “BBL + Halo” combo treatment — one of the most popular rejuvenation packages at SkinLab. BBL corrects pigment and redness while Halo addresses texture and resurfacing, delivering comprehensive results in a single session.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a BBL photofacial?
BBL (Broadband Light) is the world’s most powerful IPL device, made by Sciton. It uses targeted light energy to correct sun damage, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and facial redness. At SkinLab by Dr. Roth, BBL is available at our Houston and The Woodlands locations.
What is Halo laser?
Halo is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in a single treatment. It resurfaces the skin to improve tone, texture, pore size, and sun damage with less downtime than fully ablative lasers.
How is BBL different from Halo?
BBL uses light energy to target pigment and redness at the surface level. Halo uses laser energy to resurface and remodel the skin at both surface and deeper levels. Many patients combine both for comprehensive rejuvenation — BBL for tone, Halo for texture.
How many BBL or Halo sessions do I need?
Most patients see significant improvement with 1-2 Halo treatments per year. BBL for maintenance is typically recommended in a series of 3 sessions, with annual touch-ups. Your SkinLab provider will recommend a personalized plan at your consultation.
Is there downtime after Halo laser?
Halo involves 5-7 days of social downtime. The skin appears bronzed then sheds MENDS, revealing fresh skin underneath. BBL has minimal downtime — mild redness and darkening of pigmented spots that flake off within a few days.
Where can I get BBL or Halo laser in Houston?
SkinLab by Dr. Roth offers BBL and Halo at two locations: 2800 Kirby Dr #B224, Houston TX 77098 (River Oaks, 346-394-7149) and 9595 Six Pines Drive Space 470, The Woodlands TX 77380 (713-673-8663).
Should I get BBL and Halo in the same session?
Many patients choose to combine BBL and Halo in a single session — it is one of the most popular treatment packages at SkinLab. The advantage is that you address both tone (BBL) and texture (Halo) in one visit and only go through one recovery period instead of two. If you have both pigmentation concerns and texture or resurfacing goals, the combo delivers more complete results than either treatment alone.
Why would I choose BBL over Halo, or Halo over BBL?
Choose BBL if your primary concern is pigmentation, sun damage, redness, or rosacea and you want minimal downtime — most patients are back to normal in 1 to 2 days. Choose Halo if your primary concern is skin texture, pore size, fine lines, or acne scars and you can accommodate 5 to 7 days of social downtime. If you have both concerns, combining them is the most efficient approach.
How do BBL and Halo compare to other SkinLab treatments like MOXI, Solaria, and Morpheus8?
BBL and Halo are the go-to treatments for correcting tone and resurfacing texture. MOXI is a gentler fractional laser — ideal for patients who want preventive care or mild correction with minimal downtime. Solaria CO2 is more aggressive than Halo, for patients with significant acne scarring or deeper wrinkles who want maximum laser correction and can handle 7–14 days of recovery. Morpheus8 is a completely different approach — radiofrequency microneedling that tightens and remodels deeper tissue rather than resurfacing the surface. Many SkinLab patients combine BBL or Halo with Morpheus8 to address both surface tone and texture correction alongside deeper lifting and tightening.
