MOXI Laser in Houston & The Woodlands | SkinLab by Dr. Roth
MOXI Laser in Houston & The Woodlands
MOXI® is a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser by Sciton designed to refresh, brighten, and rejuvenate the skin — with minimal downtime and no seasonal restrictions. At SkinLab by Dr. Roth, MOXI is available at our Houston River Oaks and The Woodlands locations, performed by our licensed clinical providers under the medical supervision of Dr. Forrest S. Roth, MD, FACS.
How MOXI Works
MOXI uses non-ablative fractional laser technology to create thousands of microscopic treatment zones in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of healthy new skin cells while leaving surrounding tissue intact for faster recovery.
Unlike more aggressive resurfacing lasers, MOXI delivers meaningful results with a gentle treatment experience — making it ideal for patients who want to maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin without significant downtime.

What MOXI Treats
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Sun damage and pigmentation
- Fine lines and early signs of aging
- Dull or lackluster complexion
- Overall skin quality and radiance
- Preventive aging maintenance
What to Expect
Before: A topical numbing cream is applied for comfort. Avoid sun exposure and tanning 2 weeks prior to treatment.
During: The MOXI handpiece is moved across the treatment area. Most sessions take 20–30 minutes for a full face. You may feel a warm, prickling sensation during treatment.
After: Redness and warmth resolve within 24–48 hours. Small bronzed dots (MENDS) may appear on the skin for 2–4 days as treated cells shed, revealing fresh skin underneath. Most patients return to normal activities the next day.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
A series of 3–4 MOXI treatments spaced 4 weeks apart produces excellent cumulative results. Annual or semi-annual maintenance sessions keep skin looking its best over time.
MOXI vs. Halo
Both MOXI and Halo are Sciton fractional lasers, but they serve different purposes. MOXI is gentler — ideal for preventive care, maintenance, and patients with mild concerns. Halo is more aggressive, combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths for deeper resurfacing with more downtime. Many SkinLab patients start with MOXI and progress to Halo for more advanced correction.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MOXI laser?
MOXI is a gentle non-ablative fractional laser by Sciton that stimulates the body’s natural healing response to produce healthier new skin cells, improving tone, texture, pigmentation, and glow with minimal downtime.
Who is a good candidate for MOXI?
MOXI is suitable for all skin types and tones and is available year-round. It is ideal for patients who want preventive care, skin maintenance, or treatment of early signs of aging, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation.
How is MOXI different from Halo?
MOXI is gentler with minimal downtime — ideal for maintenance and prevention. Halo combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths for more significant resurfacing with 5-7 days downtime. Many patients use MOXI for maintenance and Halo for deeper annual correction.
How many MOXI sessions do I need?
A series of 3-4 MOXI treatments spaced 4 weeks apart produces excellent results for most patients. Annual or semi-annual maintenance keeps skin looking its best. Your SkinLab provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.
Is MOXI safe for all skin types?
Yes. MOXI is one of the few lasers safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types including darker skin tones, and it can be performed year-round — unlike some light-based treatments that require avoiding summer sun exposure.
Where can I get MOXI laser in Houston?
SkinLab by Dr. Roth offers MOXI at two locations: 2800 Kirby Dr #B224, Houston TX 77098 (River Oaks, 346-394-7149) and 9595 Six Pines Drive Space 470, The Woodlands TX 77380 (713-673-8663).
How does MOXI compare to BBL, Halo, Solaria, and Morpheus8?
Think of MOXI as the entry point — the gentlest fractional laser with minimal downtime, ideal for prevention and skin maintenance. BBL targets pigment and redness specifically using light energy with similar minimal downtime. Halo goes deeper than MOXI with more significant resurfacing and 5–7 days of social downtime. Solaria CO2 is the most aggressive laser option, best for significant scarring or deeper wrinkles with 7–14 days of recovery. Morpheus8 is a different category entirely — it uses radiofrequency microneedling to tighten and remodel skin structure rather than resurface it. Your SkinLab provider can help you determine where to start based on your skin concerns and tolerance for downtime.
